Wholesale Succulents
from Yunnan, China

Two defining genera — Aeonium and Echeveria — grown at 2,000-metre elevation and shipped bare-root to retailers, collectors, and nurseries worldwide. Every plant arrives correctly named, documented, and ready to sell.

The Case for Yunnan

Why do professional buyers choose Chinese succulents?

China — and Yunnan Province in particular — has become the world's dominant source of wholesale succulents for one compelling reason: scale without sacrificing quality. Over two decades of intensive cultivation, Chinese growers have refined propagation techniques, developed proprietary hybrid lines, and built the export logistics infrastructure to deliver plants reliably across every continent.

Yunnan's highland farms add a further dimension: the cloud-forest climate naturally produces the compact growth habit, tight leaf spacing, and vivid stress-colouration that Western retail buyers and collectors demand. A Yunnan-grown Echeveria subsessilis displays the same deep burgundy blush as a greenhouse-stressed Korean cultivar — but at a fraction of the cost and with far better root development for international transit.

The result is a product that sells beautifully on both sides of the equation: premium enough for boutique retail and collector markets, scalable enough for commercial nursery programs.

Genus · Aeonium

Aeonium — The Canary Island Dynasty

Originating from the Macaronesian islands, Aeonium thrive in our Yunnan highland conditions and produce the dramatic dark rosettes and branching architectural forms that command premium pricing in Western retail markets.

About the Genus

Aeonium is a genus of approximately 35 species in the family Crassulaceae, indigenous to the Canary Islands, Madeira, and the eastern Mediterranean. In cultivation, hundreds of named hybrids and cultivars have been developed — particularly the striking purple-black forms so sought after in the Western succulent market.

At SouthQuest Farm, we specialise in old-stalk Aeonium: mature branching specimens that have developed multi-headed candelabra forms over 2–4 growing seasons. These commanding plants — impossible to source from younger propagation stock — are our most requested collector items.

Featured Varieties We Export

  • Aeonium arboreum 'Zwartkop' — deep burgundy-black rosettes, 30–60cm branched stalks
  • Aeonium 'Sunburst' — cream, yellow, and pink tricolour variegation
  • Aeonium haworthii — blue-green rosettes with pink-tipped margins
  • Aeonium undulatum — large dinner-plate rosettes, architectural scale
  • Aeonium 'Cyclops' — compact dark rosettes, collector favourite
  • Aeonium tabuliforme — flat disc rosette, highly unusual form
  • …and 55+ additional named varieties available on request

Export Sizing Standards

We offer Aeonium in the following export specifications:

  • S (Cutting): Single rosette, 3–5cm diameter, unrooted or rooted
  • M (Young Plant): Rooted, single or 2-head, 8–15cm total height
  • L (Branched Specimen): 3–7 heads, 20–40cm height, old-stalk character
  • XL (Exhibition): 8+ heads, 40–80cm, museum-quality specimens
💡 Collector tip: Yunnan-grown Aeonium exhibit significantly deeper pigmentation than sea-level farms due to UV intensity at altitude. 'Zwartkop' specimens grown in Kunming achieve near-black colouration naturally.
Genus · Echeveria

Echeveria — Mexico's Most Photogenic Export

The world's most collected succulent genus. From the dusty-rose perfection of 'Perle von Nürnberg' to the ghostly silver architecture of E. subsessilis, our Echeveria collection represents over 140 varieties and is continuously refreshed with newly registered cultivars.

The World's Most Loved Succulent

Echeveria comprises approximately 150 species native to semi-desert regions of Mexico, Central America, and northwestern South America. The genus exploded in global popularity through the Korean and Chinese succulent breeding scenes in the 2010s, which produced thousands of named cultivars with dramatically enhanced colouration, novel forms, and improved cold tolerance.

SouthQuest Farm grows both species Echeveria (true botanical species for purist collectors and CITES-aware importers) and named cultivars (hybrid varieties developed through controlled cross-pollination, including popular Korean line imports we have propagated on-site for 3+ years).

Featured Varieties We Export

  • 'Perle von Nürnberg' — dusty mauve-pink, the gateway succulent
  • 'Lola' — translucent pearlescent rosette, collector staple
  • 'Subsessilis' — steel-blue with pink margins, tight geometric form
  • 'Afterglow' — large lavender-pink rosettes, strong seller
  • 'Black Prince' — deep maroon-black compact rosette
  • 'Minima' — tiny jewel-like rosettes, gift market favourite
  • E. agavoides 'Lipstick' — bright green with scarlet red tips
  • E. laui — white powdery bloom, highly sought rare species
  • …and 130+ additional cultivars available. Request our full PDF catalogue.

Why Our Echeveria Travel Well

Echeveria are among the most transit-resilient succulents when properly prepared. Our pre-shipment protocol removes plants from soil 5–7 days before dispatch, allows the roots to callous and dry, and reduces plant moisture to a stable level that prevents rot during transit. Combined with our cotton-paper individual wrapping, the result is a plant that arrives with firm leaves, healthy root tips, and minimal transit stress.

Long-term retail partners report that correctly packed Echeveria from our farm have an arrival health rate consistently above 97% — even on 14+ day transit routes to Europe and Australia.

🌸 Trend alert 2025: Crested (cristate) and monstrose Echeveria forms are experiencing a surge in collector demand. We maintain a small but growing stock of crested specimens — contact us for first-look access.

Caring for your succulents after arrival

Understanding the post-transit recovery window helps you and your customers get the best from every shipment.

📦

Day 1: Unpack & Acclimate

Open boxes immediately upon arrival. Remove cotton wrapping and stand plants upright in a bright, indirect-light location. Do not water for 48–72 hours — roots need to recover from transit stress first.

🪴

Days 3–7: Pot Up

Pot into well-draining cactus/succulent mix. We recommend a 60% inorganic (pumice/perlite) to 40% organic ratio. Water lightly once after potting, then resume your normal watering schedule after one week.

☀️

Weeks 2–4: Establish

Gradually increase light exposure. Succulents may temporarily lose some of their stress colouration as they enter a growth phase — this is normal and colour will return with increased light. Most plants are resale-ready within 2–4 weeks.
